The project guidelines is to create a 15 second diorama by using Adobe After Effects. A diorama is a model that represents a specific scene through the use of 3D elements to create special effects and animations. Through the use of animated elements, the diorama had to tell a story with opening and closing “curtain” scenes.
In the pre-production the first step to beginning the project was to storyboard and pre plan what will happen. The plan is to have a fairy come out of a mushroom house and spread magic around the area to bring life and color to the scene. It was also planned to have the diorama feel magical like a fairy tale.
In the final execution of the diorama the original plan of the fireplace and the visual angle on the book had changed from the bottom to the front. The purpose of this change was due to a time limit on the video and by visually viewing the book from the front cover it created a smoother flow when the cover swings open.
The diorama was designed with one composition nested into another composition. The video scene that comes to life on the page of the book is the composition that is nested into this larger scene. The purpose of this was to allow the viewer to be drawn into and visually see the story instead of read it. Overall, this 15 second video has told the story it was designed to tell visually all through the combination of a pre-produced storyboard, graphic elements and 3D animation software.
